Emphasis

Emphasis in a recording is a boost to the high frequencies applied before production. When the final product is played a de-emphasis is applied, suppressing the boosted frequencies and in theory improving the Signal-to-Noise ratio. PQ Codes are supposed to be used to tell a player to apply the de-emphasis.
